Deakin’s Faculty of Health is recognised in Australia and internationally for its teaching, training, research and service. We are one of the fastest growing health faculties in Australia.

Working as part of the Office of the Faculty of Health and supporting a dedicated School, the Learning Designer plays an important role in ensuring a smooth transition for academic staff to new educational technologies implemented within both digital and located learning environments. Working closely with the Associate Head of School, Course Directors and other academics, the Learning Designer will also be a key contributor to the provision of design, development and assessment expertise in educational design.

Strong stakeholder engagement and expert communication skills are critical within this front-facing position. You will provide consultative support and learning design advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders across the School as well as interacting and networking with staff from other Faculties and areas within the University. A key position within the Faculty, demonstrated experience in a similar role will be essential to your success.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the work of the Learning Design team of the Educational Development Unit in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of digital media technologies and learning designs employed by the Faculty that is consistent with the Faculty’s digital learning strategy.
  • Contribute to the delivery of effective communications and change management around digital learning technologies and learning design, with an ability to assist in the building of capacity in academic staff for pedagogically sound and sustainable use of digital media technologies and learning designs.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to academic staff on the integration of digital media technologies (e.g., HTML5, video and interactive learning objects) in the learning design of units and programs that are to be implemented for premium cloud and located learning, in line with the emphasis of the University’s LIVE the Future Strategic Agenda.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of educational issues, educational strategies and technology issues facing Faculties and campuses and work with teaching staff to develop effective use of digital media technologies and learning designs in their units.
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of training sessions for Faculty teaching staff on effective use of digital media technologies and learning designs to enhance the student learning experience in their units.
  • Provide advice in the field of educational design for digital media technologies and provide consultative support and educational advice and guidance to academic teaching staff in designing and integrating online media, curriculum and classroom instruction to enhance learning and teaching.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A tertiary degree with subsequent relevant work experience or a combination of extensive, relevant experience, training and specialist knowledge in a tertiary education organisation.
  • Competency in the effective use of digital media technologies and learning design to create premium cloud learning experiences that will assist academic teams to increase the use of digital media technologies to improve curriculum design and student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with teaching academics and teams of academics to design enhanced curricula using sound learning design and digital media technologies in order to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Experience in the delivery of training and support sessions in digital media technologies for teaching academics.
  • Understanding of the principles and objectives underlying the provision of educational development support in the higher education sector.
