Position Information

Bourke Public School draws its enrolment from the Shire of Bourke, situated on the banks of the Darling River, including the immediate township and surrounding areas in the far north west of NSW. The school has a current enrolment of approximately 180 students (including 78% Aboriginal students and 3 Support classes). The school has a supportive and active Parents and Citizens Association and Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). Our talented, motivated and caring staff inspire children to have a love of learning using innovative and challenging educational programs and pedagogies including L3, Focus on Reading, TEN/TOWN numeracy, individual and team representative sports. Bourke Public School is an Early Action for Success school and has a strong focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). Bourke Public School is developing a major focus on Digital Technologies. In 2012, the school became part of the Connected Communities Strategy. Connected Communities is a strategy to drive improved educational outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people. The strategy positions schools as community hubs that broaden the influence of the community and school leadership in the delivery of key services that support children and young people from birth through school into further training, study and employment.

Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach infants and primary (K-6) with a demonstrated ability to deliver high quality, differentiated literacy and numeracy programs using evidence based and data informed practices to improve student outcomes.

2. Demonstrated capacity to implement outstanding classroom management strategies to cater for the needs of students with varying behavioural, academic and social needs.

3. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.

4. Demonstrated ability to build and contribute to a positive school culture and school-wide wellbeing practices with a capacity to make a broader contribution to whole school extra-curricular activities.

5. Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students from low socio-economic communities.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
