Position Information

Wilcannia CS is located in Western NSW on the banks of the beautiful Darling River. We deliver tailored learning pathways for students from Preschool to Year 12, with 95% of our students identifying as Aboriginal. Our school has a current enrolment of 80 students from K-12.

As a Connected Communities school, supported by our local AECG, we are part of a network that builds strong partnerships with Aboriginal leaders, families, our wider community, and external agencies, to provide a holistic approach to education for all of our students.

Small class sizes allow for effective relationships to be established between staff, students and their families. We have a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, the delivery of quality differentiated literacy and numeracy programs as well as a commitment to delivery programs that demonstrate a culturally rich curriculum.

Staff at Wilcannia WCS are committed to continuous improvement enhanced by targeted professional learning, with opportunities existing for staff to be involved with future focused learning, STEM, cultural programs, outdoor education, and school promotion.

All staff at Wilcannia CS are flexible within their roles to support the individual needs of students, ensure the smooth running of the day, and coordinate school events.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1. Demonstrated capacity to lead a faculty with diverse expertise and experience, supporting and mentoring staff in innovative pedagogy, catering for Aboriginal students.

2. Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively as an effective member of the school executive team to lead initiatives that contribute to whole school strategic priorities.

3. Proven experience leading a faculty that is driven by high expectations incorporating the analysis of a range of data to improve engagement and academic achievement for all students and enable collective staff efficacy.

4. A visible leader with high level organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, to foster productive relationships within a diverse and dynamic school community.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
