About UNE

The University of New England (UNE), Armidale is a regionally based, globally networked university that is renowned for the quality of its student experience and the excellence of its research specialisations. Currently there are over 26,000 students (84% of whom are distance/online students) and approximately 1,200 academic and general staff.

Right from its inception as Australia's first regional university, UNE has consistently redefined what a university is. UNE's first Vice-Chancellor, Sir Robert (Bert) Madgwick, believed the University's job is to find out what people want and never start with what the University thinks they need. His personal mission was to help ordinary people to respond to a rapidly changing world for the purpose of empowering society.

In 2020, UNE underwent a comprehensive organisational change. Our new strategic plan, Future Fit, commits us to providing our students with personalised lifelong learning journeys, in line with Madgwick's vision and founding goal of UNE being a leading regional university that empowers its communities and supports resilience in its people. This is a remarkable and exciting time to be part of UNE and the University is thrilled to announce we are currently recruiting for a Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) to provide strategic leadership in implementing the Indigenous strategy.

About The Role

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) provides strategic advice to the Vice-Chancellor, the Senior Executive and the University, leading and implementing the Indigenous strategy and promoting a whole-of-university approach to Indigenous student support and community engagement. The incumbent role is also to enhance research profile by providing leadership, management and oversight of all Indigenous activities, and policy and strategy development and implementation. This position reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and is part of the Senior Executive Team.

It is essential that the person who holds the position is of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. It is therefore a genuine requirement under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) (ACT) that applicants are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Further information about the role and UNE can be found in the attached candidate information booklet.
