The Department of Education is the largest employer within the State's public sector, with over 55,000 staff delivering quality education for over 320,000 students. The Department's strategic direction, "Every student, every classroom, every day" is exemplified in all public schools across Western Australia.

The Statewide Services Division provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most. The Directors will lead the strategy, policy, program oversight and operational support of the Division. Through their leadership, support for schools to help students achieve optimal outcomes will be strengthened. They will lead the delivery of services that will provide more responsive support to schools and build professional capability in line with the Department's strategic directions.

The ability of the Directors to work together and with other leaders to improve educational outcomes for students through the efficient deployment and sustainable use of resources is essential. Likewise, the ability to pivot seamlessly from strategy to operational matters, including crisis or critical incident management, will be fundamental to the success of each of the advertised positions.

We are seeking experienced, innovative and highly capable leaders for Director positions, and invite candidates able to demonstrate exceptional educational leadership to apply.

There are four positions to be filled:

Director Disability and Inclusion

The Director will focus on supporting leadership of the teaching profession to improve outcomes for students with disability and the development of integrated services and programs to meet the needs of individual students and teachers. The Director will work collaboratively with key officers both within and external to the Division to develop and implement strategies and responses to strengthen system approaches to disability and inclusion.

Director Service Design and Support

The Director will lead a team that will support the Division to streamline system responses to a wide range of requests for expertise. This is a pivotal role which will oversee the development and prioritisation of corporate services and operational processes across the directorates and their teams.

Director Student Engagement and Wellbeing

The Director will lead strategies to improve student engagement and wellbeing for schools across the State. Collaboration with key officers in the Division will be essential to develop, implement, and monitor strategies to strengthen engagement and connection with schooling, and to promote student mental health and wellbeing.

Director, Teaching Quality and Innovation

High quality teaching practice is the key to achieving improved educational outcomes for our students. The Director will lead a system wide approach to quality teaching and learning, and will work collaboratively across the division to develop a catalogue of professional learning programs and resources which will be available to educators across our public schools.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancies. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout the Division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
  • complete the Department's training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
