The role

The Lower Library Technician (Prep to year 4) is required to demonstrate competency in specific technical skills, managing aspects of routine library procedures, maintaining the efficient functioning of the Lower Primary Library and providing support to the Teacher Librarian in the delivery of library classes as required. You will be responsible for:

  • acquisitions, cataloguing and classifying including managing the accessioning of all additions to the library collection in accordance with the Dewey Decimal system, loading MARC records from the SCIS database, managing the library computer network, use of Trove, OCLC Classify, The Source and ReadPlus
  • day-to-day management of the circulation desk and associated duties
  • assisting the Teacher Librarian in the execution of a partial stocktake at designated times
  • assuming responsibility for all equipment, systems and services including Infiniti, Borrow Box and Queensland museum loans.
  • ongoing maintenance, organisation and repairs of the resources in the SparkLab
  • providing recommendations to the Teacher Librarian and the e-Learning Facilitator regarding the purchase and ordering of additional and replacement resources.

About you

This role requires a passionate library technician who can work both independently and collaboratively with the Teacher Librarian, teachers and students. Tertiary qualifications in Library Technology Library Services (Certificate/Associate Diploma/Diploma) are required or such knowledge, qualifications and extensive experience in the technical aspects of library management. You will also have:

  • demonstrated interest in children’s literature and literacy
  • proficiency in databases and library systems
  • ability to work in a close team, following directions, work independently as well as keenness to be an innovator
  • good verbal and written communication skills, be able to work to routines and meet deadlines
  • experience working with young children
