Alkimos Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time Associate Principal vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year up to the end of Term 2, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year up to the end of Term 2, 2022.

Alkimos PS wishes to appoint committed, knowledgeable and team oriented Associate Principals who are able to work collaboratively with other members of the school leadership team to provide strong managerial and curriculum leadership.

Alkimos PS, located in Perth’s northern suburbs, opened as an IPS in 2016 and currently has an enrolment of around 690 students, and will continue to grow steadily. Our approaches to teaching and learning are that our staff members understand that the quality of relationships with students is the key. Our teachers are able to adeptly engage families and the Alkimos school community, as crucial to our school's ongoing success is the extent to which this sense of belonging and connectedness can be created. Our staff strive to create a highly collaborative learning environment, providing a range of meaningful learning experiences which are developmentally appropriate, inclusive, individualised and founded upon explicit teaching principles. Learning takes place in respectful, stimulating and creative environments with clear expectations and boundaries, in which everybody feels safe and is treated fairly.

While our academic focus is strong, Alkimos PS equally holds robust beliefs about the non-academic needs of our students. Education is truly about the 'whole child'- meeting their emotional, physical and behavioural needs, for example, is essential if students are to be successful learners and happy children. This extends to staff and our community- the well-being of our staff and families is very important to us. Associate Principals at Alkimos PS are expected to take show strong leadership in this area.

Associate Principals, in collaboration with the Principal and other members of the school leadership team, will provide strong educational leadership in the school and community by helping to develop and promote school values, ethos and priorities. Associate Principals will also assist the Principal to facilitate workforce effectiveness in leading and motivating staff in planning directed at improving outcomes for students and the level of service delivered by the school. Suitable applicants will also engage school staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals, including leading the development and implementation of the Alkimos PS Business Plan and Operational Plans. Associate Principals will be instrumental in maintaining and growing the strong connections that the school has with our school community. A strong understanding and proven successful experience in curriculum leadership and strategic school operations will be highly regarded.

The suitable applicants will be accountable to the Principal for effective operations of relevant areas of responsibility through assisting the Principal to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Departmental policies and procedures, and management of financial, physical and human resources. They will be responsible for providing timely and appropriate feedback to staff about their performance through ongoing conversations and facilitate opportunities for professional learning and support in accordance with the Public Sector Performance Management Standard and Departmental policy.

Applicants are also advised that Alkimos PS proudly hosts a Specialist Learning Program - Autism Spectrum Disorder (SLP-ASD). It is expected that as Associate Principal, you will strongly support the inclusive principles and beliefs of this program as students regularly move between their homeroom and mainstream class. Suitable applicants will possess a capacity to cater for the needs of students within the SLP-ASD and the wider school community, and to be able to work closely with the SLP-ASD Program Coordinator, who is a valued member of the school leadership team.

Further, applicants are advised that a teaching component may be required in this role, reflecting the business needs of the school, as determined by the Principal.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING

Employees will be required to:
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
