About the role

You will deliver high quality instruction and assessment, develop innovative resources and assessment materials, and undertake educational administration. You will provide clients with a wide range of support and advice, and equip them with the skills and knowledge required for their chosen career or pastimes. Clients include students looking to enter the maritime industry, existing maritime industry professionals needing to upskill and members of the general public wishing to gain maritime related skills/licences.

The scope of the Skills Instructor Maritime role covers a variety of responsibilities and activities within the sector, including:

  • classroom based teaching;
  • teaching via video conferencing;
  • practical skills training in simulated workplace environments;
  • engaging with students and their employers in the workplace;
  • supporting students and employers with their workforce and career development needs;
  • showcasing careers and associated education pathways to community, schools and industry.

Mandatory requirements

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus TAEASS502 and TAELLN411*
  • Certificate of Competency as Master up to 24m NC (or equivalent) and Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 NC with at least 12 months of verified sea time experience holding such qualifications
  • MAR10418 Certificate I in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 2)
  • MAR20318 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)
  • MAR30918 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 metres Near Coastal)
  • Appropriate industry related qualification/s (i.e. Marine Radio, First Aid etc.)
  • Extensive experience in the Maritime Industry, particularly with regard to vessel operation, management and maintenance
  • MAR20418 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driving - Grade 3 Near Coastal) or equivalent or higher qualification would be highly desirable
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check
  • Current Police Check (no older than 12 months)

* If you don’t currently have the minimum required teaching qualification, yet you have extensive industry experience and associated qualifications, TAFE Gippsland will consider your application but you must meet all other criteria shown in the Job Description.
