About the Centre/Service: Aurora School Early Intervention program is a statewide Department of Education & Training service for families and children (aged 0 to 6) who are deaf or hard of hearing. Aurora provides regular home based support from collaborative teams which include speech pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf, educational psychologists, social workers, and deaf educators. Aurora Early Intervention programs provide tailored inclusion support in state-wide kindergartens and child care facilities. A bilingual philosophy underpins our program and we believe the provision of both spoken and signed languages are integral to the comprehensive development of young deaf children’s wellbeing and early communication and language skills. The development of listening skills is an important feature of our program .
Work Days of the Role: 3 days/week

Under the direction of the Manager Early Intervention, the Speech Pathologist will: - Support families with young deaf children in line with family centred and strength based practice, Early Childhood Intervention Competencies and the Early Years Framework Practice Principles. - Work as both the key member, and as a part of a collaborative team, in the provision of family centred and family focused services. - Deliver speech pathology services, including assessments, through a range of methods: direct face to face support, online consultation and videoconferencing. - Provide assessments of children’s speech and language abilities. - Collaborate with parents, colleagues and others in developing, implementing and evaluating programs which meet the identified educational, social and emotional needs of families and their children. - Maintain appropriate records and communicate effectively through written and oral reports as required. - Provision of information, resources, training and support to those responsible for the management of deaf children. - Participate in ongoing professional development, including planning and evaluation of collaborative service delivery. - Liaise with and refer onto other external services as appropriate. - Support the establishment and operation of networks that enhance the provision of services to deaf children and their families. - Provide professional supervision to trainee speech pathologists on placement as required. - Other duties as required by the Principal

Qualifications: An approved qualification in speech pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
