Position Summary:

Working closely with the Dean, Faculty of Applied Science Engineering Technology and the Chair, School of Environmental and Civil Engineering Technology and School of Fire Protection Engineering Technology, the Manager, Academic Programs provides academic leadership and management to the School of Fire Protection Engineering Technology and the school of Environmental and Civil Engineering Technology in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology.

The Manager, Academic Programs is responsible, with supervision and assistance from the Chair, for daily operating matters and operational planning and management within the schools ensuring that the semester to semester goals of the Schools are met.


Supports Faculty

  • Conducts orientation for all new faculty members, at the beginning of each semester, which may include workshops on classroom management, Seneca policies and procedures and an introduction to the School’s critical dates and processes.
  • Provides advice to faculty on classroom management, interpretation of academic policy and other inquiries.
  • Supports adjunct faculty in delivering curriculum and carrying out projects (under the supervision of the Chair).
  • Performs classroom observation and feedback.
  • Provides day-to-day supervision of faculty for curriculum delivery and departmental projects.
  • Liaison with faculty to connect them with various college support areas, such as HR, Payroll, Scheduling, Advising, Centre for Teaching and Learning, etc.
  • Administers the processes for recruitment of new FT/adjunct faculty under the supervision of the Chair.

Supports Students

  • Provides additional academic support to students as needed.
  • Consults with staff, faculty and/or students to mitigate and resolve issues and concerns and arrive at formal or informal resolutions.
  • Chairs or leads designates for Academic Integrity Committees and Student Academic Appeal Committees.

Strategic Planning

  • Works with Faculty members and administrative leaders, to discuss long term plans for the schools within the faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Chairs:
    • Monitors and reports on faculty allocation, resource allocation and academic performance of the schools and the Faculty.
    • Develops new strategic industry partnerships and projects.
    • Develops new program proposals and curriculum for program launch and redevelopment.

Marketing and Outreach

  • Ensures that marketing materials are up-to-date and available and maintains other colleges and higher education institutions, advisory groups, and industry partners.
  • Leads schools’ outreach at recruitment events.
  • Manages the development of online and traditional marketing materials, and maintains regular contact with high schools, other colleges, advisory groups and industry partners.

External Partnerships

  • Working closely with Seneca International on existing and proposed joint ventures/partnerships etc.
  • Traveling to international destinations as required to gauge the quality of programs and delivery and to conduct partnership meetings with potential and existing partners.
  • Being part of the team that gauges the value and the feasibility of proposals from Seneca International and other internal departments.


  • Under the supervision of the Chair, on-boarding and off-boarding full-time and contract faculty.
  • Works with the Secretaries, Coordinators and Faculty to ensure Program Advisory Committees are in place and active for all programs or program clusters, and that PAC information is up to date (minutes, membership, communications).



  • A minimum completed four (4) year degree in areas such as Business Administration, Higher Education Administration or a related field, or a combination of degree and higher education administrative experience. State how education and/or experience are relevant.
  • A Master’s degree in Education, Business or related field is preferred.


  • A minimum of five (5) years progressive experience, providing academic and administrative leadership within an academic institution.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferably in a related school discipline is considered an asset


  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with an emphasis on interpersonal, coordination, negotiation, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective and efficient verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Professional presentation skills verbally and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire faculty.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
