JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Information

Albion Park High School is located within the Shellharbour City Council local government area at the foot of the Illawarra escarpment. The school has a growing student population of 970 students including 80 Aboriginal students and 11 support classes. It has a strong history of valuing cultural diversity and building academic excellence and sporting success. It also offers a broad, inclusive curriculum in both the junior and senior school and encourages students to pursue a variety of positive post school options including TAFE, university and employment.

The school has a strong HOW2Learn philosophy and a focus on high quality Project Based Learning, which begins in Year 7 with a HUB learning program. Staff are a mix of newly appointed, beginning and experienced teachers and are committed to the school, students and community. The school implements a dynamic, differentiated professional learning model to build effective classroom practices and nurture leadership at all levels and prides itself on positive learning partnerships with the wider community, including the Albion Park Community of Schools.

The whole school community, involving students, staff, parents and the local AECG, were consulted in a thorough situational analysis followed by the development of a strategic improvement plan. Through the NAPLAN gap analysis, the school has identified system-negotiated target areas in Reading and Numeracy. As a result, we will be enhancing student achievement using improved data collection, analysis and differentiated instruction to all students.

Selection Criteria

Demonstrated ability and passion for motivating, developing and supporting quality teaching and learning and building effective partnerships with staff, parents and the community for continuous school improvement.

Demonstrated capacity to lead the implementation of highly effective programs in learning support, high potential and gifted education and student welfare.

Highly approachable and engaging leader with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the demonstrated capacity to lead a dynamic school community purposefully and collaboratively.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to leadand manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high qualityeducation

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive wholeschool teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with thecapacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the schooland educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performanceof staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectivelyand equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff inimplementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensurequality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Conditions

If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Classification Structure for Principals:

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2021.

Should the successful applicant be an existing permanent substantive school principal who has not elected to opt into the new classification structure, they will have the choice to either;

  • Opt into the new classification structure which will provide them the remuneration package as detailed under ‘Compensation”, or
  • Be appointed under the previous classification structure which will provide them with a remuneration package valued at $204,827.00. This position attracts a base salary of $185,242.00, plus leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation.
