Position Summary

The Manager, Rural and Remote Health SA will lead the provision of professional support services to the Flinders Rural and Remote team in SA. These services include financial, people and culture, facilities, information technology, student services, research support, and a variety of administrative services. In addition, the manager will develop and maintain working relationships with a variety of external stakeholders, contribute as part of the Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA Leadership Team, and ensure the University meets its management and reporting responsibilities.

The manager is expected to have a sound understanding of the rural South Australian context including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and education, and remote heath.

The position will be based in rural SA and provide leadership for a range of professional staff across the geographical footprint of SA.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and relevant senior management experience; or an equivalent combination of extensive management experience and/or education and/or training.
  • High level strategic administrative management and organisational skills, with demonstrated capacity to manage a complex and varying workload, including oversight of staffing and other resources, and work health and safety requirements, across a decentralised organisation with dispersed sites.
  • Demonstrated budget and financial management experience and expertise, including the application of financial management systems, analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and management of staff, including setting team direction and guiding and influencing organisational culture, managing and recognising staff performance and resolving grievances/ conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic high level policy and management support and advice, and to undertake change management and quality improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated high level analytical and writing skills, with the ability to compile, analyse and present a range of complex data in reports and funding submissions.
  • High level interpersonal, communication skills, including the ability to develop effective, strategic stakeholder relationships, to influence high level decision making and high level of initiative, with the capacity to manage complex and sensitive negotiations.
  • Understanding of the issues associated with education and health services in rural/remote environments.
  • Commitment to the University’s social accountability mandate, and to the principles of affirmative action for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of the contemporary issues affecting the higher education sector, particularly health professional education, and health policies.
  • Management experience within a rural or remote environment.
