About the Research Office

The Research Office is a central unit within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and provides support for research activities across UTS in partnership with the faculty research offices and other support units, including identifying and accessing research funding, contracts, ethics, post-award, IP management and commercialisation and research data intelligence. In order to continually improve the way we support our researchers, the Research Office is adopting a new operational team structure.

In support of our endeavour to undertake excellent research that delivers global impact, UTS is establishing a best practice research culture that will support UTS researchers and professional staff to achieve their full potential. Ethical conduct of research is an essential part of any excellent research culture and has the ability to add significant value to the design and management of research projects.

About the role

As the Knowledge Management Officer you will play a defining role in the management of information and knowledge assets within the Research Office (RO). You will develop, implement, evaluate and lead management mechanisms for RO information and acts as a first point of contact for enterprise knowledge management tools. You will be at the centre of the way in which enterprise reporting processes such as the annual research outputs collection (ROC), the Excellence of Research in Australia (ERA) and the Engagement and Impact assessment (EIA) are promoted and communicated to the UTS research community. The role is expected to assist with these key processes.

You will also have a second focus on the use of bibliometrics to augment RO processes and act as a bibliometrics analyst for the research division, supporting the research objectives of the University.

At Level 5 day to day you will:
  • Work within RO to develop and maintain a management framework for existing knowledge assets.
  • Assess and prioritise enterprise knowledge management tools for decision by the RO Executives.
  • Audit research outputs for research reporting.
  • Undertake bibliometric analysis for the research division.
  • Highlight and report to resolution, issues with the knowledge platforms.
  • Provide advice as required with respect to existing knowledge platforms and assets
At Level 6 day to day you will:
  • Advise and train staff on bibliometrics as required.
  • Provide pro-active advice to the University Research Community regarding existing knowledge platforms and assets.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of how the Research Division uses knowledge management.
  • Evaluate and advise on the potential impact to administrative support processes due to the introduction of new knowledge management resources.
  • Troubleshooting existing issues around research knowledge management.
  • Work with vendors to support issues and investigations with regards to knowledge management platforms.
To be successful in securing the role you will have:
  • Experience with implementing and championing knowledge management techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience in building collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent understanding of knowledge management principles.
  • Highly developed ability to influence, motivate and negotiate with a range of stakeholders concerning knowledge management.
  • Able to be innovative in identifying opportunities to better manage information assets.
  • Broad knowledge of the University sector (specifically including applications, publishing and IP management) in Australia and overseas, including competitive grants, major Centre funding, industry funding and commercialisation funding.
  • Good understanding of the characteristics of excellent and impactful research.
  • Thorough knowledge of the role of bibliometrics in understanding research and experience in applying bibliometrics to inform research decisions.

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $72,492 pa to $91,049 pa (HEW 5/6)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for seven months.
