Full Job Description
This position is accountable for providing advice and counselling services to current students. You’ll ensure individualised advice and secondary consultation on all matters relating to the welfare and well-being of students. The role will support students through one-on-one appointments, group sessions and other prescribed methods of engagement.

You will continually innovate, exploring and engaging new channels for supporting students and will establish and maintain appropriate internal relationships that augment the support and welfare provided within the organisation, as well as agencies and services.

Your key accountabilities will be to:
Liaise with individuals and teams at all levels and across portfolios to discuss specialist matters and develop organisation solutions.
Design and develop solutions for workplace procedures, resources and operational issues to improve the customer experience.
Offer advice on student behaviour, issue escalation and critical matters to inform decision making.
Initiate, plan and lead workshops and programs for students and staff in response to the identified needs of the Institute community.
Employ measured responses to student crisis and complex concerns in a demanding and changing environment.
Remain current and provide specialist interpretation of industry standards, changes in legislation, and policy to ensure accurate advice.


You will hold a relevant degree in psychology, counselling, welfare or community services with relevant experience or have lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience and specialist expertise. You will be eligible for registration or membership with PACFA, ACA or AASW.

Crucial to your success will be your short term, pragmatic counselling experience in an education setting and demonstrated experience coaching staff, facilitating groups and providing colleagues with professional peer support in the counselling domain. You must have extensive experience working with culturally diverse clients in a counselling or support role, have knowledge of local agencies and the ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships with service providers.
