Full Job Description
In this position you will take part in a research project with AbleAustralia entitled ‘Using Technology to enable participation of people living with dual sensory impairment’. The aim of the project is to evaluate the utility and adaptability of mainstream technologies to support people who are deafblind.

The Research Assistant will work alongside the project team at Able Australia and a Higher Degree by Research student to support the data collection into the project, including recruitment, collection of qualitative and quantitative data with participants who are deafblind so clinical experience in this area would be particularly valuable. Working under the supervision of the steering and project committee and working closely with the project manager, other tasks would be assigned in negotiation with the interests and capacity of the incumbent.

This position is currently located at the Hawthorn campus, but the incumbent will be required to undertake data collection at participants home environments or in other convenient locations. Thus, the incumbent must be willing to travel between campuses and work at a range of locations, in particular there may be the opportunity for co-location with Able Australia .

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health or education related field and registration with an appropriate professional body
  • Demonstrated experience in performing assessments with clients with a range of disabilities
  • Willingness to prepare ethics applications
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative and the ability to work independently
