About the Role

The Music Department is looking for an inspiring and committed voice teacher to join our thriving team. The successful candidate will start with approximately 12 students in their vocal studio, with scope to grow. While a range of styles and techniques are taught for a holistic approach, students are expected to develop classical technique to enhance all styles.

The successful candidate will have a wealth of diverse experience including their own performing portfolio as well as a proven track record as an excellent vocal teacher of both beginners and more advanced learners. They will be expected to assist in the preparation of pupils for School performances and services as well as preparing students for music exams.

The position is reviewed annually

The successful applicant will preferably have experience in leading and supporting choirs and vocal sectionals to enhance our Choral programme. If the applicant has experience, the role will include running sectionals, assisting with ensembles, and looking at choral repertoire in private lessons. The applicant will also be expected to know how to differentiate and adapt their teaching dependent on the experience level and age of students.

About You
Tertiary qualification in Voice
Experience teaching K-12 individual lessons
From beginner students to preparation for tertiary entrance
Tertiary qualification in Education is preferred
Working with Vulnerable People Check (or application for approval)
First Aid Qualification (or enrolment in 2021)
Maintain a Public Liability Insurance policy and have an ABN.


Teach individual vocal lessons to students from K - 12
As required, assist with school ensemble and sectional work
Organise, through the Music Department, a Studio Concert on School premises once each semester, unless alternative arrangements are approved by the Director of Music
Report Private student progress to the Director of Music and the Head of Performing Arts
Ensure Private students undertaking academic music are prepared for Solo Performances with appropriate repertoire
Encourage Private students to complete an annual practical exam
Schedule students and mark the roll for Ensembles and Vocal Studio
Maintain excellent communication with the parents of Private students
Comply with the terms and conditions of the Canberra Grammar School Instrumental Teachers’ Agreement (copy available on request)
