About the Role

The Primary School Teacher Librarian has a responsibility to the Head of School through the Head of Primary to exercise the purpose and values of the school in and out of the classroom. In partnership with the Primary Library Team, the Teacher Librarian will provide a positive learning environment that values and engages students, empowering them to attain high levels of achievement, to continually improve their learning and to be ready for the world.

The Teacher Librarian will have expertise in providing literature rich learning programs, supporting the development of research skills and promoting a positive reading culture across the Primary School. Knowledge of the Primary years Program is desirable as this role is integral to supporting the implementation of the PYP.

As an information specialist, the teacher librarian will collaborate with the Primary Library Team and teachers to provide innovative approaches to literature-based library services. This role involves guiding students with their literature choices, encouraging critical reflection of literature, curating resources and sharing the responsibility to professionally manage the Primary Library collection.

About You

The successful role-holder must:
possess a Bachelor of Education or equivalent & qualifications in librarianship as defined by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
experience working within a primary school library
sound ability to display initiative and good judgement
working knowledge of the Australian National Curriculum
working knowledge of the IB Primary Years Programme or willingness to undertake learning in this regard
possess a first aid certificate with anaphylaxis and asthma training or willingness to obtain
