St Hilda’s School is owned by the Diocese of Brisbane and the School Council is appointed by the Archbishop in Council. The major functions of the School Council are the appointment of the School Principal, the fixing of the annual budget and the fixing of school policy. The Principal, in the role of Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the day-to-day running of the School. All staff are responsible for carrying out their duties.

Teacher of Learning Enhancement

Full Time Fixed Term Contract

The School is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to fill the important position of Teacher of Learning Enhancement. Reporting to the Head of Learning and Teaching this role is a fixed term contract role. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the classroom teaching Years 7-10.

As a key member of the Learning Enhancement faculty, this role provides specialist assistance to students in the classroom from Years 7-10, as well as individual and small group instruction for students who have additional learning and support needs. The Teacher of Learning Enhancement together with the Head of Learning Enhancement and Head of Junior School develops effective communication strategies to ensure an inclusive and consultative approach to diverse learning across the School. Additionally, the Teacher of Learning Enhancement:

Is required to develop and support a visionary approach to learning enhancement with a demonstrated interest in current and future learning and teaching initiatives
Mentor staff on how best to support the needs of students
Is a passionate advocate of diverse needs and initiates and develops appropriate adjustments for specific students,
Initiates and develops IEPs
Supports teachers in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for specific students
Maintains relevant student documentation i.e NCCD evidence of adjustments for students with a disability
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of AARA
Provides examination supervision where required
Works collaboratively and builds relationships with students, staff and parents
Liaises with appropriate external agencies if required

The successful candidate will possess:
Demonstrated qualifications and ability to teach Year 7-10 subjects (Literacy and Numeracy essential)
Tertiary qualifications in secondary school/special education or higher is desirable.
Must have relevant and demonstrated experience in similar roles
Proven experience in integrating ICT into learning and teaching, knowledge of Blackboard an advantage
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with students, parents and other stakeholders
Ability to work independently but also part of a collaborative, creative team with a passion for girls reaching their potential
Knowledge of contemporary curriculum issues in Special Needs education
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child safety principles
Current First Aid including Asthma and Anaphylaxis or willing to obtain this prior to commencement.
