Spinifex State College - Alternative Education Program are seeking applications for a compassionate and professional teacher with experience in Students with learning difficulties and risk of disengagement. The successful applicant needs to be resourceful, resilient and ready to embrace the challenges and triumphs of teaching in a remote location. The Alternative Pathways Program is here to support students in Years 7 to 10 who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from mainstream education. The program is based on the site of Spinifex State College - Junior Campus. It provides students with the opportunity to learn in a supportive, alternative education setting with a focus on individualized learning pathways, personalized learning support, practical hands on learning. Alternative Programs are negotiated for students learning and accessed by the school for students who identify as requiring specialized learning environments. Decisions are made in collaboration with the Principal, Deputy Principal, Wellbeing Leaders, parents/carers, teachers and students. Alternative Programs offer personalized and variable approaches with responsive curriculum accommodating student learning needs as documented in students ICP, which need to be managed by the teacher.

  • Students work in supportive and collaborative environments with the teacher.
  • Teacher, students and parents/carers work together to develop goals which integrate learning in ways that is relevant, meaningful, challenging.
  • Teacher covers all areas of the Australian Curriculum, which includes having an understanding P-10 curriculum.
  • Strong focus on literacy and numeracy skills, and tracking student's progression through testing and assessment.
  • Students identify individual learning and life goals.
  • Students are encouraged to engage in learning within and beyond the classroom sustaining transitions through school.
  • Planning curriculum for multiple age levels and differentiation for many varying levels of students.
  • Planning assessment and reporting for students in the program.
  • Work with HOSES to ensure needs are catered for in all students.
The successful applicant will need to:
  • Encourage students to develop a positive self-concept, both as an individual and as a learner.
  • Undertake Professional Learning to ensure they maintain currency.
  • Collaborate and liaise with external agencies.
  • Management of a teacher aide with the classroom.
  • Ongoing liaising with families to support student engagement, home visits, attendance tracking.
  • Development of programs with external agencies.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
