Deakin’s School of Medicine works to enhance the communities we serve through outstanding clinical training and research. The Clinical Skills Educator will be responsible for supervising and teaching clinical skills as part of a team of educators delivering an established clinical skills curriculum to Year 3 and 4 students at the Geelong Clinical School.

The appointee will work closely with the Director and Deputy Director of Clinical Studies, Medical Director of Simulation, the Leads of the 10 major clinical disciplines taught in Year 3 and Year 4 at the Geelong Clinical School, and colleagues within the Clinical Skills Educator team. There will be regular contact with academic, clinical and administrative staff at the Geelong Clinical School, and with School of Medicine. There will be daily contact with students attached to the Clinical School. A core requirement of the role is regular in-person availability to provide student support, recognising the specific needs of medical students undertaking clinical rotations.

Your key responsibilities will include:
Making a significant contribution to the Faculty’s teaching programs that is consistent with the University’s Strategic Plan and core commitments
Undertaking teaching related duties consistent with the University’s principles of teaching, learning and the student experience
Completing formal training in an area of identified need or to progress towards a higher qualification (eg GCHE)
Implementation of Workplace-based Assessment including via the Learning Needs Analysis process
Developing learning environments that are flexible, student centred and accessible, and utilising appropriate technology (e.g., CloudDeakin online resources and workplace-based assessment digital platforms)
Assisting with the delivery of clinical skills assessment
Make a contribution to research and scholarly publication
Participate in the development and implementation of collaborative research projects
Developing links and partnerships with relevant professional and community organisations

To be successful, you’ll have:
Degree in a health discipline (eg Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy)
Ability to teach in Clinical Skills at undergraduate level and a willingness to develop an understanding of the University’s principles in relation to teaching, learning and the student experience
Potential to contribute to the Faculty’s undergraduate teaching program in a manner that influences, motivates and inspires students to learn
Ability to contribute to the development of curricula and teaching resources
Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues and the public: orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of professional partnerships, including as part of a clinical role where relevant
Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, the staff of the School, Faculty, other members of the University and staff of local healthcare networks
A post graduate qualification in Medical Education or relevant professional work experience *desirable
