The Role

We currently have two vacancies with the Ministerial Visits and the International Education and Training teams. Further details on these roles are as follows:

Deputy Director, Ministerial Visits. You will lead a small team to coordinate the logistics for international visits for Defence Ministers, the Chief of the Defence Force, the Secretary, Vice Chief of the Defence Force and the Associate Secretary. You will also provide support for VIP visits to overseas Defence establishments in areas of operations, including for the Governor-General, Prime Minister and the Australian Defence Force Parliamentary Program. You will work closely with overseas Defence Posts, ministerial offices and Defence stakeholders to manage logistics and develop programs for multiple visits and locations concurrently. The programs will incorporate daily schedule of meetings, transport, accommodation and dress and gift requirements. You will coordinate meetings with relevant policy desk officers, ministerial staff and Defence stakeholders as required. You will develop a timeline, task policy desks for briefs, compile and distribute briefing packs to relevant areas. You will not be required to undertake international travel.

Deputy Director, International Education and Training. You will lead a small team to undertake the administration and coordination functions that support foreign military education and training programs within Australia. Courses may include Single service training, Seconded Officer Program and the Joint Training program. You will coordinate country training bids and offers, monitor language requirements for students, oversee travel arrangements and payment of allowances, and other general administration tasks. You will provide advice on international training policy and manage stakeholder engagement. You will oversee a budget, facilitate internal reporting, and administer contract management of an external service providers. You may be required to undertake limited domestic travel.

About our Team
The Ministerial International Visits (MIV) team coordinate the logistics for international visits for;

Defence Ministers,
Chief of the Defence Force,
Secretary of the Department of Defence,
Associate Secretary, and
Vice Chief of the Defence Force.
MIV also provides a point of contact in Defence for the Offices of Australian VIPs, such as the Governor-General and the Prime Minister for visits to overseas Defence establishments in areas of operations.

MIV work closely with Posts, policy desks, ministerial offices and Defence stakeholders to manage logistics and develop programs for multiple visits and locations concurrently. The programs incorporate daily schedule of meetings, transport, accommodation and dress and gift requirements.

The role of the International Education and Training Team (IET) is to undertake the administrative and coordination functions that support the provision of Foreign Student Training provided under the Defence Cooperation Program, Fee for Service basis and the Defence Engagement Program.

The primary focus of foreign student training is to develop skills and/or knowledge in areas that are mutually beneficial to both Defence organisations. The major focus of foreign student training is to support the Defence International Engagement Objectives. Foreign student training is a useful tool for engaging regional countries and is an integral part of the development of relationships.

Foreign student training can take many forms such as:
Postgraduate studies at an Australian University/Institution under the Defence Cooperation Scholarship Program;
Attendance at the Australian Defence College, including Australian Defence Force Academy;
Attendance at formal courses including Officer training establishments;
Attendance at Seminars and working groups;
Attachment to units for on-the-job training;
Mobile training teams providing Defence training in-country;
Third Country Training;
Short term attachments and Visiting Military Fellowships (less than 12 months);
Secondments (more than 12 months); and
Combination of the above.
