Student Equity - Girls in Engineering

Full-time, fixed-term appointment until 30 June 2022
Salary range: Level 7; $90,862.00 - $100,814.00 p.a. plus 9.5% superannuation (increasing to 17% from July 2021)

The University of Western Australia has a range of student equity and access programs that are located within Student Life including:

Aspire UWA and the Western Australian Children’s University Partnership, which work in partnership with primary and high schools in Perth and regional WA to support students underrepresented in higher education and encourage lifelong learning.

Fairway UWA provides an alternative entry pathway to the University of Western Australia for students whose academic potential has been impacted by disadvantage. Girls in Engineering (GiE) inspires female students to take advantage of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) study and the career pathways available in this area.

GiE works closely with the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (EMS) and the Brand, Marketing and Recruitment (BMR) division to support the strategic marketing and recruitment objectives of the program and Faculty. The program sponsor at UWA is the Executive Dean of EMS.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, deliver the GiE Program and outreach activities to high schools.

You will be responsible for the development of strong working relationships with partner school representatives, development of STEM activities and resources, visits to schools, campus visits and networking events.

Your role will provide a high level of marketing and event support, with a particular focus on tailoring outreach efforts for the targeted demographic, engaging the next generation of engineers and encouraging study in Engineering and STEM more broadly at UWA.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent competency
Substantial relevant outreach , project management and marketing experience
Experience engaging with high school age students to promote tertiary education pathways
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders to identify needs and deliver outcomes
Excellent planning and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines
Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and email
Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively as part of a team
