Student Success

The Student Success team is responsible for a diverse range of programs and services including: career advice and counselling, career development and leadership learning programs, provision of employment opportunities, engagement in volunteering and service learning. The team offer support to students in transition into University and beyond life at Curtin.

About the role

This unique position will provide support to the Earn While You Learn (EWYL)/Recruit Curtin team in enhancing employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students as part of the Aboriginal Student Placement Program (ASPP).

ASPP supports the implementation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement Strategy and the Curtin University Reconciliation Action Plan.

In this role you will

Work with appropriate Student Success staff to promote awareness of ASPP to relevant stakeholders, including students, hiring managers, Curtin staff and employers.
Build strong relationships with indigenous students seeking employment opportunities and encourage them to register for the ASPP Program.
Proactively engage with students and graduates and respond to their queries via email, telephone and face to face, providing appropriate information to ensure their optimal use of the Student Success resources and services.
Working alongside, and guided by, the EWYL/Recruit Curtin Coordinators, help source employment opportunities that enrich the Curtin Indigenous student experience.
Develop and maintain knowledge of Student Success and wider Curtin University activities and programs.
Use area systems to extract and compile data on numbers of students both registered and placed in the Program.

You will bring to the role

Knowledge, training or experience relevant to the duties to be performed, or completion of year 12 without work experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Well developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Strong organisational skills and accuracy and attention to detail.
Involvement with Indigenous organisations and community groups. (Desired)
Understanding of the issues faced by students, particularly indigenous students, in securing paid employment. (Desired)
