Supplement your existing role or complement your studies with this Pastoral Care Worker role.

  • Contract until 10 December 2021 (school terms only)
  • Above award pay ($36.62 per hour)
  • O'Sullivan Beach Primary School, 2x 5 hour days (work days negotiable)

About the Position

Pastoral Care Worker services are funded by The National School Chaplaincy Program which aims to support schools in promoting the well-being of students by complementing but not replacing other existing well-being initiatives in the school community such as careers advice, counselling and similar. The program is designed to provide a tailored option specific to the needs and requirements of each school community.

Some of the responsibilities of a Pastoral Care Worker Include:

  • Work closely with, and/or as part of the school well-being committee or team to plan for and deliver student resilience and well-being services
  • Provide students, their families and staff with support and or appropriate referrals, in difficult situations such as during times of grief or when students are facing personal or emotional challenges.
  • Develop relationships with, and refer students/parents/carers to specialist services within the school as appropriate or externally under the direction of the School Principal if there are existing state/territory or school referral policies
  • Organise one-on-one or group sessions with students, parents, staff and other members of the school community as requested and required by the school community
  • Run breakfast clubs
  • Deliver peer leadership and support programs
  • Participate in school activities such as sport, camps, gardens etc.
  • Report to school community organisations on service provision within the school community
  • Facilitate activities connecting students with other members of the community

About You 

Essential Criteria 

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work or Pastoral Care or an equivalent qualification which must include competencies in mental health and making appropriate referrals
  • Valid Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check
  • Current Responding to Abuse and Neglect Training – Education & Care
  • Safe Environments for Children and Young People - Through Their Eyes Training
  • Valid Australian Driver’s Licence

Desirable Criteria 

  • Social Work, Education, Behavioural Science, Psychology or Counselling qualification
  • Experience working in a school environment
