The Role

The role of the TAFE Teacher as a professional educator is to help, construct, guide and enhance the educative process. The teacher delivers educational programs and facilitates learning, enabling students to achieve their desired outcomes.

The Teacher of Literacy and Numeracy will be delivering pre-vocational training in Literacy and /or Numeracy to students with various backgrounds and ages who have experienced barriers to engage in learning. This training will prepare such learners for further study or entry into vocational pathways.


To be successful in this role you must have:

1. Relevant recognised Degree in Education with a Major focus on Literacy and/or Numeracy and / or Language including the equivalent of one year’s full time study in the teaching of Literacy and / or Numeracy 

2. Demonstrated Evidence ( post degree ) of 200 hours (or more) relevant teaching experience.

3. Hold the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40110 with the two additional units) or equivalent.

4. The intent to continue to develop your Vocational Education and Training (VET) knowledge and skills as well as your industry currency and trainer/assessor competence.

5. High level written and oral communication skills in English, strengths in problem solving and proven ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of educational, industrial or community environments.

6. Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment and demonstrated organisational skills applicable to an educational setting that includes early school leavers, disengaged youth, Indigenous and people with disabilities.

7. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and demonstrated ability to contribute in a team environment that includes online/digital communications.
