Junior Einsteins Nurturing Centre – Flinders is a family-owned business that prides themselves on their ongoing commitment to children’s learning and development. Open 50 weeks a year, our centre caters for children aged 2 – 5 years and runs from 7:30 – 5:30 Monday – Friday and closes on public holidays.

Position Information

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, responsible, caring, passionate and experienced Cook to join our team here at Junior Einsteins Nurturing Centre – Flinders. This is a permanent part-time position working 5 days per week, 4 hours per day. In this position you will be planning and cooking nutritious meals from a set menu (morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea) which is run over 5-week intervals for 33 children per day aged 2-5 years.

  • 9am to 1pm – 5 days per week, Monday to Friday (20 hour week)

  • Support the health and well-being of the children through planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks
  • Cooking for children with various allergies, additional needs and dietary requirements
  • Ensure safe and hygienic storage, handling and preparation of food and drinks
  • Completing compliance logs and paperwork
  • All general cleaning of the kitchen including and not limited to utensils, crockery and cutlery that is used daily
  • Keeping the kitchen safe and hygienic to an extremely high standard


  • Working With Children Check (or willing to obtain)
  • Relevant food handling certificates (Safe food Handling and Menu Planning), or willing to obtain or an equivalent TAFE Commercial Cookery Certificate
  • Understanding of the national quality standards, surrounding kitchen and food preparation (desirable)
  • Knowledge of safe hygiene practices
  • Effective time management skills
  • Experience working as a cook in a childcare centre or similar environment (desirable)
  • Experience preparing meals for children with allergies (preferred)
  • Passionate about preparing and providing nutritious meals to young children
  • Ability to work on your own and maintain a clean and functional kitchen
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
