About the opportunity

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University's ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for a Lecturer and a Senior Lecturer to join the Sydney School of Health Sciences for the Discipline of Exercise & Sport Science (ESS).

We are seeking academics who are passionate about improving health outcomes through exercise and/or sports performance, who are committed to teaching and research, and are team players ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities. You will be responsible for teaching into both our undergraduate and post-graduate programs in exercise science and exercise physiology.

To be successful you will have a background in one or more of the following areas: Motor Control; Skill Acquisition; Biomechanics; 3 Dimensional Motion Analysis; Psychology / Behavioural Sciences. ESSA accreditation at the level of either Exercise Physiologist, Exercise Scientist or Sport Scientist is desirable.

The positions offer opportunities to develop and contribute to research and teaching in exercise and sport sciences as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

About you

  • a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline (ESSA AEP, AES and/or ASpS desirable)
  • a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise
  • an understanding of and ability to support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment
  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
To be considered for the Senior Lecturer Exercise & Sport Science classified as a Level C level position we will also require that you:
  • are acknowledged at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the discipline and/or in pedagogical or curriculum innovation
  • have an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University
  • have demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the discipline and educational design and practice
  • have significant experience in supervising others and coordinating team activities including unit of study coordination
  • have a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector
