Position details

:The Teacher Assistant will be part of a highly competent, committed and enthusiastic team that supports students with special learning needs. The role of the Teacher Assistant at Mercedes College is to support the class teacher to provide for the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional development of all the students in the class. Teacher Assistants are additional resources in the school who work as directed by the Principal, the Deputy Principal Academic Services, the Head of Inclusive Education and the teacher/s. They contribute to the educational outcomes of the students.
Commencement date:This is temporary position for Term 2 2021 and is dependent on funding for Students with Disabilities.
Conditions of Employment:The employer of staff at Mercedes College is Mercy Education Limited and employment is subject to the terms and conditions of The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth Non-Teaching Staff Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2014 and the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia Policy Statements and school based policy statements.Remuneration will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Selection process:The closing date for applications is Friday 16 April. A short-list will be developed after consideration of all applications. Interviews will be held as soon as possible after the closing date. Selection criteria:

  • Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School, or preparedness to work toward this
  • Support for the ethos, Shared Vision, values and mission of Mercedes College
  • A Teacher Assistant Certificate III or Teacher Assistant Certificate IV
  • Ability to monitor and assist a high needs students with their medical needs and academic work
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with students with special needs
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a Learning Support team within mainstream classes
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • A current Senior First Aid Certificate Experience in a secondard setting preferred, but not essential.
