Our interconnected teams of earth scientists, physical and social scientists, environmental management specialists, health and safety experts, and urban planners work together to address the increasingly critical global challenges of a growing population, climate change, urbanisation, food security, conservation, and natural resource management. Researchers, teachers, and students from around the world are drawn to our vibrant academic environment at UQ’s stunning St Lucia campus. We house world-class research facilities and have access to unique fieldwork locations in Australia and abroad. UQ’s research excellence in earth and environmental sciences is world renowned and is reflected by our consistent high ranking in respected global league tables. About This Opportunity

The Science Communication Officer supports the Science Communication Manager (SCM) in the development of communication materials for Threatened Species Recovery Hub of the National Environmental Science Program. The hub is undertaking almost 100 research projects across the country and involves over 100 researchers from more than 10 institutions, and partners from more than 200 other organisations.

Primary responsibilities of the role are to: liaise with research project teams to source content, write and edit factsheets, magazine articles, project descriptions and other materials that communicate the work and research finding of the projects to our stakeholders; consult partners and stakeholders on draft materials; submit materials to the Commonwealth Government; maintain up to date work planning spreadsheets; provide materials to the hub graphic designer; and assist with other activities as required.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment - you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a candidate with qualifications in ecology or a related field, along with very high written communication skills, including demonstrated experience of drafting and editing scientific content to suit general audiences. A broad understanding of environmental science issues in Australia, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills will be highly regarded.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

We value diversity and inclusion, and actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity to the University.
