JOB DESCRIPTION

Darling Downs South West Region has an exciting, temporary position to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students successfully transition from schooling to either further education, training or employment. This position supports schools across the entire region. The successful candidate is able to negotiate the base location of this role between the following regional offices Toowoomba, Roma, Kingaroy and Warwick.

The Indigenous Pathways Coordinator role supports and monitors Year 11 and 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to stay in school and succeed.

This support includes individual support (in conjunction with school) for students, mentoring opportunities and industry and training connections to support school-based apprenticeship and traineeships and certificate training to contribute to QCE point attainment.

A significant proportion of the duties of this position involve policy and program development, direct communication and support services for Aboriginal persons and Torres Strait Islander persons.

Your Role

As the Indigenous Pathways Coordinator you will have responsibility for the following:
  • Utilise the services of other agencies to package case management support for individual students.
  • Monitor the Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan for each year 12 Indigenous student and ensure each has an Individual Pathway Plan.
  • Plan and initiate activities in line with Individual Pathway Plans and the aspirations of students to ensure they have every opportunity to articulate from schooling to a post-secondary pathway.
  • Establish formal and informal partnerships with business, industry, education and training providers, Centrelink, Job Services Australia, Indigenous communities, Indigenous groups and other key stakeholders to support achievement of student outcomes.
  • Work with the Queensland Indigenous Education Consultative Committee (QIECC) to effectively engage parents and the Indigenous community.
  • Coordinate post-secondary education and training opportunities that are nationally accredited and include pre vocational training, Australian Apprenticeships, Vocational Education and Training and university courses.
  • Oversee the linking of young people to employment or employment services, especially those students that have completed qualifications.
  • Develop and monitor arrangements aimed at supporting students in further education, training and/or sustainable employment for a period of at least 26 weeks beyond year 12 completion.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
