JOB DESCRIPTION

The Discipline Lead is a campus level position which provide academic leadership to the Discipline on the Brisbane campus. This position is responsible for the delivery of high quality academic courses, providing support to staff involved in the delivery of Courses. The Discipline Lead deputises for the Chair of Discipline in the planning and delivery of academic courses and assists the Campus Academic Manager in the management of permanent and sessional academic teaching staff.

Key Result Areas:

Academic Leadership

  • Ensuring the delivery of disciplinary Courses on the campus in accordance with regulatory and professional accreditation standards
  • Overseeing the implementation of academic policies and procedures as they apply to Discipline Courses delivered on the campus
  • Collaborating with the Campus Academic Manager in relation to planning and management of resources for the delivery of Discipline Courses on the campus
  • Collaborating with the Campus Academic Manager and Discipline Chair in the recruitment and on-boarding Discipline academic teaching staff
  • Working with the Chair of Discipline to ensure consistency of delivery of Courses across campuses
  • Contributing to academic administration of the disciplinary Courses on the campus, including admissions processes, student Unit and Course results

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Facilitating effective communication between Discipline academic staff and key stakeholders
  • Participating actively in local and national community and professional service initiatives to support the operations of the Discipline and the campus

Service Delivery

  • Overseeing and contributing to the delivery of disciplinary events on campus
  • Responding to student enquiries as required

Student Success

  • Contributing to the implementation of academic policies and procedures for students undertaking Discipline Courses on the campus
  • Monitoring performance of students undertaking Discipline Courses to identify and manage issues contributing to variations in student success between campuses

Research and Scholarship (In conjunction with the Chairs of Discipline)

  • Applying research and scholarship to the design and delivery of our disciplinary Courses
  • Developing the culture of research and scholarship among disciplinary academic staff on the campus

Qualifications and experience:

  • A PhD from an appropriate cognate discipline is required.
  • Experience leading academics in a higher education institution.
  • Clinical counselling experience is an advantage

Expertise and abilities:

  • The ability to mentor your team to ignite and inspire our students over Zoom and in the classroom
  • The ability to manage and balance the needs of students and staff, to support in the development of timetables and workloads of academics.
  • Excellent scholarly expertise and/or industry expertise
  • Good interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Experience as an academic team leader
  • A communications connector who can build relationships throughout
    the college
  • The ability to be flexible and to problem solve complex challenges
