Position Title: Classroom Assistant
Hours of Duty: Permanent Part Time (3 days/week 8.30am - 1.00pm)

Start Date: Term 2 2021

Responsible to: Principal via Primary School Co-ordinator

Probation: A probationary period of six months will apply

Location: Noosa Pengari Steiner School, 86 Nyell Road, Doonan Queensland

Primary Objective

Guided and directed by the Classroom Teacher and working with the philosophy and principles of Steiner Education, the Classroom Assistant supports the Teacher to implement the class program and curriculum, to support children to participate as fully as possible in the program and to improve and develop in all areas.

The Classroom Assistant provides both general and teaching support to the Teacher. Classroom Assistants have a strong commitment to and understanding of duty of care, participate actively in the life of the School community, and are committed to ongoing individual and collaborative professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the teacher in implementing the Class program.
Assist the teacher with preparation of materials and activities.
Assist the teacher to apply behaviour management strategies that contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive learning environment.
Provide and maintain a safe learning environment for children.
Be consistent about rules of supervision and discipline and undertake playground duties as directed.
Develop a cooperative, harmonious relationship with teachers to ensure a consistently caring, secure environment.
Follow school reporting and emergency procedures.
Attend fortnightly faculty and staff meetings as required.
Attend internal and external professional development as required.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and parents.

Selection Criteria

A whole-hearted interest in young children.
Previous experience working in education.
Previous experience in Steiner Education.
A long-term commitment to working with children.
Patience, equanimity, endurance, enthusiasm, flexibility, and the ability to communicate well with staff, children and parents.
A willingness to receive instruction and an openness to working as a team member.

Qualifications and Requirements

Current First Aid and CPR Qualifications or a willingness to obtain.
A Blue Card or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement of employment.
Certificate in Education Support (desirable).
Certificate III in Early Childhood or a willingness to take on this training (desirable).
