Based at the City campus, support the communications and events requirements of the Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement.

About the role

The Coordinator, Communications and Events will oversee and work closely with teams to support the communications and events requirements of the Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement. This role will work to ensure effective and impactful communication and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities by leading and initiating activities.

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate the following:

Demonstrated community connectedness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and organisations;
Experience advising and supporting community, with a demonstrated understanding of the educational challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples;
Demonstrated experience working on events and marketing, with a focus Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enhance and connect people with opportunities at RMIT;
The ability to create communication plans, source/create content and update information points (websites, canvas, pamphlets etc);
Strong communication skills, with experience in project management with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing deadlines.

The Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement is responsible for providing the leadership and strategic direction for RMIT’s whole-of-university approach to reconciliation and engagement efforts and activities.

The Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement is responsible for a university wide remit that has impact on all parts of the university. These areas include:

education and training
student engagement and supplementary support
research and innovation
strategy and policy
making a positive contribution to the maturing of the culture of RMIT


Desirable: A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.

Preferred: A current driver's licence.
