Salary package: $71,878 - $84,451 per annum plus 17% superannuation

Position overview

The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, teaching and contributions to public debate, and seeks to set the international standard for scholarship concerning the region.

The Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs (Bell School) is a world-leading centre for research, education, and policy analysis on international and Asia Pacific politics, security, diplomacy, and strategic affairs. The School comprises a number of vibrant, interdisciplinary, intellectual communities: the Department of International Relations, the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, the Department of Political and Social Change, and the Department of Pacific Affairs.

We are offering up to two part-time appointments (one 0.8 FTE or two 0.4 FTE appointments) for a fixed term period of up to 12 months for an experienced Research Officer/s to provide comprehensive support on a diverse range of research activities in the areas of Politics/Political Science, International Relations, and Moral and Political Philosophy.

The primary responsibility of the Research Officer/s will be to assist the Chief Investigator, Professor Toni Erskine, in the completion of a book manuscript and a number of journal articles, as well providing assistance in the preparation of grant applications. The subject matter of each of these lies at the intersection of International Relations and Moral and Political Philosophy The Research Officer is responsible for providing general support related to all research activities associated with the project, in addition to being responsible for independently collecting, synthesizing, and analysing research for specific aspects of the project.

Our ideal candidate will have a degree in Politics/Political Science, Philosophy or International Relations, or demonstrated relevant experience in a research or research support role in a related discipline and an interest in a field closely related to allocated research activities. There is a strong preference for a candidate who is either currently undertaking a PhD, or who has completed a PhD, in one of these areas. There is also a strong preference for a candidate who has particular expertise in either Normative IR Theory/International Political Theory or International Relations and AI. We are also looking for candidates who have a sound knowledge of qualitative and analytical research methodologies and experience using software such as EndNote, Zotero and MS Excel.
