The UTS Climate Change Cluster (C3) is looking to appoint a Research Associate to work with researchers and students to build bioinformatics research capacity and to contribute to a range of research projects across the Climate Change Cluster (C3), playing a contributing role in developing UTS' research in the fields of Biotechnology and Biosystems, Future Reefs, Ocean Microbiology, Productive Coasts to achieve and maintain national leadership and international recognition.

About the role
This position supports the UTS research strength called the Climate Change Cluster (C3) located within the Faculty of Science. C3 is made up of 4 academic research programs that each comprise a team of researchers, as well as a small group of research integrators who work across all research teams and a team of administrative and technical professional staff. In total C3 comprises about 90 research staff, including students, and is expected to grow with the increasing research performance expectations of senior management.

About you
You will provide expertise in bioinformatics to a range of existing and future research projects in the many and diverse research fields in the Climate Change Cluster, currently ranging from biotic and abiotic stress responses in corals, to microalgal diversity, plant and microbial genomics and transcriptomics.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in analysing amplicon sequencing, metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, genomic and transcriptomic data with algae, coral and/or bacteria
  • Skills in the application of suitable statistical analysis techniques for analysing and interpreting genomic data
  • A PhD in a relevant area of environmental bioinformatics, biostatistics, molecular genetics or very closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience in publication of research findings in international journals with an excellent publication record commensurate with career stage

Base Salary Range: $80,539 to $98,091 pa (Level A)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position will be full-time and offered on a fixed term basis for 21 months.
