This is a thirty-three (33) month fixed term position commencing ASAP with possible extension

The Literacy and Numeracy Branch is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated individual to the role of Principal Project Consultant - Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Early Years Link (CaLDEYLink) to join their team.

This role will initially commence ASAP as full time (1.0FTE) until 30 June 2021 to lead, plan and develop this project. The role will then convert to part time (0.5FTE) to maintain, support and oversee the project to completion.

The Early Childhood Education, Literacy and Numeracy Directorate is responsible for the development and implementation of systemic policy and strategic planning in literacy and numeracy and early childhood education for Western Australian public schools. The successful applicant will coordinate and facilitate the development, professional learning, implementation and support for the CaLDEYLink trial program. Within this role, you will be required to develop communications strategies to inform stakeholders on the Initiative through the use of PR and marketing streams whilst overseeing the collection and analysis of data to provide reports on the performance of the Initiative and related projects and programs.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, program supporting educators to work with CaLD families and children from ages 0 to 3. We encourage those with a strong understanding of and experience in child development, teaching in the early years, and working with EALD families to apply. Knowledge of Abecedarian Approach Australia would be valued highly.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  1. Highly developed skills, knowledge and experience in the application of policies, procedures and initiatives associated with English as an additional language or dialect, and early childhood education.
  2. Highly developed oral and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to consult, liaise, negotiate effectively and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in preparing reports, briefings and general correspondence and in conducting professional learning.
  4. Substantial skills and experience in initiating, developing, coordinating and managing programs, projects or strategies in an educational setting.
  5. Highly developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to analyse data, and provide solutions to strategic and/or operational problems and issues.

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia

  • complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department's training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
