We’re a university full of energetic and enthusiastic minds, driven to challenge what’s expected, expand what we know, and learn from other inspiring, empowering thinkers.

The Opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, is the largest faculty at Monash University, and home to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, one of six departments in the School of Biomedical Sciences. Research and teaching in the department encompass six broad themes: cell biology, signal transduction, host/pathogen interaction, structural biology, immunology and developmental biology. Our research is highly relevant to major human diseases and pathological processes, including infection, inflammation, diabetes and obesity, developmental and degenerative disorders, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Part of the School of Biomedical Sciences is the Davidovich Lab ( www.davidovich-lab.com ). The Davidovich laboratory aims to understand how repressed genes are maintained transcriptionally inactive during development. At the molecular level, the lab is focused on the recruitment and regulation of chromatin-modifying complexes.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will lead a project within the Davidovich Lab aiming to determine how histone modifiers maintain genes in an off-state during development. In addition, the Research Fellow will be encouraged to utilise and develop technology in structural biology and imaging, and to implement, and develop, applications for structural biology in situ, with a specific focus on structural study and imaging of chromatin and chromatin-modifying complexes in cells and tissues.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline or a closely related field or equivalent accreditation and standing along with sound knowledge of applications of structural biology for the study of large macromolecular complexes. A proven track record with sample preparation and grid freezing for single-particle cryo-electron microscopy or electron cryotomography teamed with experience with the study of transcriptional regulation and/or chromatin modifiers is highly advantageous.

If you believe that you possess the skills and experience required to be successful in this role, we look forward to receiving your application

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

This role is a full-time fixed-term position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Your application must address the selection criteria.
