Position overview

The ANU College of Science (CoS) comprises: the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Research School of Biology, the Research School of Chemistry, the Research School of Earth Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Research School of Physics and Engineering, the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, and the Centre for Entrepreneurial Agri-Technology. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science conduct research and delivers a research-led education program that encompasses the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities. The College has a strong tradition of research excellence that has fostered distinguished Nobel Laureates and Kyoto Prize winners and that trains scientific leaders in disciplines in which the ANU is consistently ranked in the top twenty in the world.

The Research School of Biology (RSB) carries out research and teaching in a wide range of biological and biomedical sciences. One example of the ground-breaking plant research being undertaken within RSB is available in this YouTube video. RSB Plant Services consist of the research and teaching greenhouses and the Controlled Environment Facility (CEF). An additional 37 plant growth chambers are housed in the National Collaborative Research infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) Facility, which forms part of the Australian Plant Phenomics Facility.

The Horticultural Technician is part of a small team that supports the School's plant research by providing day-to-day horticultural care, advice and operational assistance on a diverse range of plants and associated equipment located in multiple facilities located around the Canberra campus. The team also ensures plant facilities and activities within, remain compliant with the relevant Biosecurity and OGTR regulations. We are looking for a candidate with technical skills and horticultural expertise (including pesticide applications) and experience in plant growth facilities. Current Driver's licence essential. Front end loader experience desirable but not essential.
