Student Support Services works with schools and preschools to provide support to assist them in meeting the needs of all children. The role requires the incumbent to positively participate in the ongoing development and review of a service model that supports the provision of integrated and targeted services to sites to assist them in meeting the needs of children and young people with additional needs,

The Special Educator is a member of a multidisciplinary team and works with children and young people with additional needs including learning difficulties, developmental delays, disability, giftedness and health issues, and their families, and preschool and school staff. The Special Educator is placed in a team but may be required to provide services elsewhere. This position includes a particular focus on supporting children and young people with autism. The Special Educator assists in the development of supportive planning and strategies to improve outcomes for children and young people.

Qualifications
Essential: Current full teacher registration. Desirable: Post-graduate qualifications in special education.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be either currently registered or able to be registered to teach in South Australia.

If not permanent with the Education Department, applicants must meet the department’s minimum employment requirements before taking up an appointment.

Minimum departmental employment requirements for teachers include recognised teaching qualifications and registration as a teacher in South Australia and, in addition, for all applicants who are not permanent teachers with the department will include an active on-line application in the Employable Teacher Register (ETR), a cleared Education Department Employment Declaration, Australian residency or current work permit, Reporting Abuse and Neglect training (previously known as Mandatory Notification), and an approved First Aid Certificate.

Special Conditions
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department of Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. A current DHS child-related employment screening will be recognised as a WWCC until it expires. The incumbent will be required to undertake Responding to Abuse & Neglect (RAN) full day/online training course every three years. Requirements

The Curriculum Vitae should generally not exceed 1,500 words.

Remuneration
STL2 - $120,488 pa

Special Note:
This is a part-time 0.7 FTE (26.25 hours per week) contract vacancy up until 24 January 2023. This position is located in Murray Bridge.
