We are six Schools, six research centres, home to three prestigious ARC Laureates, the stunning Esme Timbery theatre and Creative Practice Lab, UNSW Galleries, iCinema, the Design Futures Lab, and multiple other maker spaces, Institutes, Labs and Studios across our Kensington and Paddington campuses.

As a new faculty, it is our priority to develop an Indigenous Strategy to affect long-term change in the educational outcomes of Indigenous students and the intellectual and cultural integrity of Indigenous teaching and research across the faculty.

The Opportunity

The school is currently seeking an experienced scholar and teacher of Sociology and Social Policy to join its team. This is a continuing Level B position. The successful applicant will contribute to the School’s Sociology and Social Sciences teaching programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate coursework.

The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualification and experience.

Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include.
  • PhD or equivalent a relevant area of study from a recognised institution and/or professional expertise and experience in a related field;
  • Ensure an active and productive publication and research agenda;
  • Apply for competitive Grant Funding: Categories 1-4;
  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning;
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy;
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance and also be prepared to convene a discipline area;
  • Make a positive contribution to School meetings and seminars and be a member of School/Faculty committees as required
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others
