JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Information

Wellington Public School has an enrolment of 525 students with 60% (more than 300) identifying as Indigenous. The school caters for a diverse range of students. There are 26 classes inclusive of 6 Special Education and two extension classes plus a preschool.

Wellington Public School has a very caring and dedicated team of teachers and support staff working collaboratively with families to provide a wide range of programs catering for the cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual needs of each student.

We are a proud Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school with a focus on developing safe, respectful learners. PBL operates hand in hand with the Be You mental health initiative. In recent years we have successfully implemented the Positive Living Skills student wellbeing program.

Through Early Action for Success (EaFS) and our School Based Allocation of Resources (SBAR) the school has an Instructional Leader, 2 Learning and Support Teachers and 1 interventionist to provide tailored interventions in Literacy and Numeracy from Preschool to Year 6. These strategies are improving curriculum implementation and quality teaching using stringent data analysis linked to direct teaching and individualised learning programs for students.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary, with proven ability to lead, mentor and inspire innovation and change across the curriculum and a demonstrated ability to meet the demands of the Assistant Principal role.

An open, visible and approachable leader with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, who empowers staff and builds positive relationships with all members of the school community.

Evidence of the ability to strategically and collaboratively lead data driven pedagogical change and professional learning that embeds quality teaching and high expectations with a focus on improving student learning outcomes.

Demonstrated capacity to lead dynamic and inclusive whole school wellbeing and learning support team practices that cater for students with a range of needs from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students from low socio-economic families.

Proven capacity to monitor and evaluate the implementation of teaching strategies within the school to improve students’ achievement in literacy and numeracy using research-based knowledge and student data.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
