Position Information

Branxton Public School supports the community of Branxton in the Hunter Valley, north of Maitland. It is proudly situated on Wonnarua Land with strong local connections to community. Current enrolment is 382 with 10% Aboriginal or Torres Islander students. The school has sucessful programs in literacy and numeracy and is striving to ensure the implementation of teaching and learning programs remains consistent with a focus on continous improvement and meeting the needs of all students from their individual point of need. Universal Positive Behaviour for Learning practices guide wellbeing practices and are embedded in all areas of school life. 

The school population is relatively transient experiencing growth in total students enrolled in recent years with housing development thriving at the northern end of the M1. The school and the community work well in partnership with an active and engaged Parents and Citizens Association, school events are extremely well supported. 

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Demonstrated experience leading all school staff to authentically engage, consult and collaborate with students and their families to support sustainable improvement in student engagement leading to improved academic and social outcomes for all students. 

2. Demonstrated success working with and through others to support a culture of high expectations resulting in sustained and measurable whole school improvement. 

3. Successful experience leading and maintaining a focus on distributed instructional leadership to sustain a culture of effective, evidence-based teaching and ongoing improvement so that every student makes measurable learning progress and gaps in student improvement decrease. 

4. Successful school based experience building and sustaining a collaborative school community where systems supporting all staff to be highly effective in their roles supporting students are established and evaluated regularly with the importance of health and wellbeing acknowledged.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to leadand manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high qualityeducation

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive wholeschool teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with thecapacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the schooland educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performanceof staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectivelyand equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff inimplementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensurequality outcomes for Aboriginal people


If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW PublicSchool at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed theNSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply,and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificateor final credential certificate as part of your application.
An unconditional full approval to teach is arequirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSWDepartment of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as youapply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P2 for 2021.
