The diverse and talented staff in the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) play a central role in achieving ECU's vision, and in designing and implementing future-oriented teaching and learning strategies. With its base at the Joondalup Campus, the CLT delivers a comprehensive suite of services and programmes on campus and online that promotes high quality learning and teaching outcomes for students and academic staff.

The CLT’s Teaching Quality team supports the development of excellence in teaching at ECU by working collaboratively with individuals, course teaching teams, and whole Schools. The CLT is seeking a Senior Learning Designer to join the Teaching Quality team who will provide leadership in the critical area of digital assessment design and moderation, with expertise in innovation, authenticity, integrity, and security.

The Role
The CLT is seeking a Senior Learning Designer who is passionate about innovative approaches to assessment design in both physical and digital environments and committed to supporting academic and professional staff to improve the student learning experience and ensure student success. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in applying effective learning design principles and strategies for consistent quality in blended and fully online environments in a higher education setting. As a Senior Learning Designer, this role will have accountabilities to work in ways that are integrated into all Schools, working with existing SLDs to ensure the sustained impact on assessment design and moderation for digital (and non-digital) contexts.

In addition, successful candidates will need to demonstrate considerable project management skills, judgement, initiative, discretion and independence while interacting with professional and academic staff. The ability to support academic teaching staff in whole-of-course assessment and activity design, feedback strategies, moderation practices and the use of online assessment platforms are also key to success in this position.

Selection Criteria
Suitable candidates will meet the following selection criteria.

Key Criteria
  • Ability to apply contemporary and evolving assessment design principles to support development of authentic, valid, reliable, and secure assessment practices in physical and digital environments; Experience supporting a team of academic staff to design and implement whole-of-course high quality and innovative assessment and feedback approaches to meet unit and course outcomes for blended and online delivery, including providing hands-on workshops for targeted audiences and following up with individual and/or small group support
  • Experience supporting professional and academic staff to understand and apply contemporary approaches to academic integrity principles, practices, and response to increasingly diverse student cohorts
  • Ability to analyse staff requirements for assessment practices, feedback approaches, and moderation practice, map those requirements to existing tools and services, and to deliver well-designed and effective solutions
  • Willingness and commitment to learn and support staff to use new approaches and various technologies to enhance the assessment and feedback experience
  • Experience developing high quality tools, templates, and resources to support good pedagogical practice and translate these into actionable academic outcomes
  • Experience with development and use of Student Identity Verification techniques in digital only assessment scenarios


Qualifications

Masters or higher qualification in Learning Sciences, Education, Higher Educational Teaching and Learning, Learning Design, Cognitive Psychology, or related area;

Other Criteria

Experience teaching in a higher education setting is desirable.

This full time, ongoing position attracts remuneration of $103,263 to $116,306 plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
