The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this temporary full time position with Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW), commencing 19 April 2021 until 24 December 2021.

The role of Education Officer – Student Wellbeing (K-12) forms part of the work of the School Improvement Services Specialist Support Team (SI-SS) in addressing the mission dimensions of the Strategic Direction document Lighting the Way, through the implementation of the School Improvement Framework. This position requires supporting students K–12 in the Illawarra Region of the Wollongong Diocese who have particular wellbeing, social and emotional, and behavioural needs. The role supports schools in implementing the Path to Life Framework as well as the CEDoW Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Policy and the Diverse Learning Needs Policy. Part of the role involves observing students in classroom settings, working in collaboration with Principals, CatholicCare Counsellors, Diverse Learning Support Teachers, Learning and Pastoral Care Coordinators and other members of the SI-SS Team in supporting the overall wellbeing of students. It also involves supporting schools, and parents/carers with enrolments of students and transition of students into schools, and other educational settings. An additional aspect of the role requires coaching schools in implementing Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L) in school settings.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • A deep understanding of and commitment to the mission and purpose of a Catholic school within the broader evangelising mission of the Catholic Church.
  • An understanding of the principles of a PB4L approach.
  • The ability to strategically implement system priorities, frameworks and policies.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating personal plans for students related to their wellbeing and learning needs.
  • Successful experience in data use and analysis to bring about whole school improvement.
  • The ability to support schools in the design and delivery of quality professional learning experiences for school staff.
  • Experience as a middle leader or above in a school setting.
  • Experience in implementing a PB4L approach, and/or similar behavioural frameworks in schools.
  • An understanding of Path to life: A Framework for Pastoral Care and Wellbeing (www.dow.catholic.edu.au under policies).

  • Applicant must be accredited with NESA to teach in NSW.
  • Evidence of formal study and/or experience in the area of student wellbeing and/or special education of students.
  • Accredited Level B in accordance with the To Work, Teach and Lead Policy, or a commitment to gain this level within the first five years of employment with CEDoW.

This role is classified as child-related work and therefore a Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.
