Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Job Description

The Program for Comparative Medicine seeks an Associate Director of PCM Program Management to oversee the planning, and governance of the critical path activities that support GTP's rapidly expanding animal care and use program.

As the Associate Director, PCM Program Management, you will manage three or more program management staff to achieve departmental goals and execute departmental strategies that support GTP's overall mission to develop lifesaving gene therapies You will set clear goals and attainable goals for your direct reports that are in alignment with this mission. This role is highly cross-functional and will involve collaboration with external partners, along with senior leadership, core leadership and study directors within GTP. You may lead projects of your own, serving as the chair of several projects with a high level of complexity & visibility. This will require generating meeting agendas and notes, distributing actionable items in a timely fashion, and following up with the Program staff, Project Leaders and Directors to ensure progress/completion. You will oversee the coordination of efforts for discovery, translational, and nonclinical safety studies while assisting the SD with optimizing departmental performance. You will develop and communicate performance metrics related to support and execution of research activities and effectively communicate and manage departmental risks. You will lead the program with attention to detail while effectively proposing and implementing innovative solutions as necessary. You will provide direct oversight to the development and implementation of a new software system (Xybion) used for data collection and reporting in nonclinical safety studies. You will oversee the design, development and execution of training programs related to Xybion implementation. You will work with the PCM leadership to ensure the department effectively manages the budget and ensure financial and resource implications of decisions, risks, and opportunities are fully understood to better inform prioritization and decision making.

BA/BS and 5-7 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
