About This Opportunity

Perform experimental and computational studies of the granular and hydrodynamics inside froth flotation equipment using techniques such as image analysis, particle image velocimetry (PIV), positron emission particle tracking (PEPT), and multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Your duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform small- and large-scale CFD simulations of flotation equipment using commercial software such as Siemens STAR-CCM+ and Ansys Fluent.
  • Validate CFD simulations by statistical comparison with experimental data.
  • Conduct research and publish scholarly papers in the area of mineral processing with a focus on computational approaches to granular flow and hydrodynamics.
  • Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research projects.
This position is located at the University Mine - Indooroopilly.

Our Ideal Candidate

You should ideally hold a PhD in the area of experimental or computational fluid dynamics, especially as applied to industrial processes, in addition to demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Familiarity with mineral processing technology, particularly froth flotation equipment such as mechanical cells, the Eriez HydroFloat™ and the FLSmidth REFLUX® classifier would be highly regarded. With an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, it will be advantageous to demonstrate prior experience in the supervision and mentoring of junior researchers including postgraduate and undergraduate students.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position up to 18 months at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,729.75 - $94,637.91 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,753.80 - $110,726.35.
