The Institute for Social Science Research

The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) undertakes transformational, solution-focused research to address new and emerging challenges facing Australian society. ISSR is an international leader in advanced interdisciplinary and evidence-based social science research, and works collaboratively with government and the private and not-for-profit sectors on pressing social science challenges across four key impact areas: the Social Science of Policy and Practice, Health, Education and Innovation and Technology.

About This Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to undertake research on social disadvantage over the life course with a particular focus on gender and family dynamics. The successful candidate will have strong theoretical, research and communication skills, an interest in building a research profile aligned with the themes of the Life Course Centre, and an interest in engaging with external partners.

This position is located at Long Pocket.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside the completion of a PhD in social science or cognate discipline (for example sociology, demography, economics, psychology or public policy), the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent knowledge, skills and demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methods, particularly for longitudinal and multilevel survey data.
  • An ability to work on multiple projects and produce timely, high quality outputs and outcomes.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and independently as required.
  • Strong motivation to undertake high quality social research to address social problems.
  • Evidence of an emerging record of publications in high-ranking refereed journals and other research outlets.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 3 years at Research Academic Level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,729 - $94,637, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,752 - $110,725
