JOB DESCRIPTION

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is one of the largest and most diverse Faculties within The University of Queensland and within Science Faculties across Australia. The Faculty of Science incorporates six schools and four research centres. The units within the Faculty are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work. The Faculty is managed by the Executive Dean, who has direct responsibility for the physical, financial and human resources, academic matters relating to programs and students, and a range of other areas such as the development of research, national and international marketing, and enhanced government, business and community links.

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership and operational management of the Faculty of Science Workshops under the broad direction of the Faculty’s Senior Manager, Infrastructure and Facilities. This position will lead a team of Workshop staff to develop and deliver Workshop facilities, services and activities for the Faculty, including the initiation and implementation of innovative solutions to support teaching and research activities.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants should possess a relevant degree with extensive experience and management expertise. Demonstrated specialist skills in mechanical and/or electronic and electrical trades, with experience managing workshop staff would be highly preferable. Applicants should also have significant knowledge and experience of the operational requirements of a wide range of teaching and research laboratories, while a working knowledge of University policies and procedures (or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge) is highly desirable.

You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity. Visa sponsorship is not available.

We value diversity and inclusion, and actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity to the University. Our Diversity and Inclusion webpage contains further information if you require additional support. Accessibility requirements and/or adjustments can be directed to recruitment@uq.edu.au.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 8. The remuneration package will be in the range $100,264 - $112,583 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.

You will be able to take advantage of UQ Sport Facilities, recreation leave loading, salary sacrificing options, on-campus childcare, discounted private health insurance, cheap parking, development programs and many other benefits.
