JOB DESCRIPTION

Ballarat Grammar is one of regional Australia’s leading co-educational schools with a proud history dating back to 1877 and a flourishing community of over 1,500 students from 6 months to Year 12, including around 250 boarders.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Student Welfare

Provide counselling and guidance to Junior, Middle and Senior School students with the aim of enhancing the student’s personal, social and education development.
Contribute advice and expertise regarding students at the radar meeting.
Monitor the psychological and emotional wellbeing of students, and the provision of psychological services to meet those needs.
Refer students, as appropriate, to external services.
Co-ordinate relevant information between external services and relevant staff with respect to students’ welfare.
Conduct meetings with relevant staff and/or parents, where appropriate.
Liaise with the Heads of School, Director of Care, Assistant Head Wellbeing and Pastoral Care and relevant staff regarding individual student issues and needs.
Be available to work with parents/students out of hours, as appropriate.
Conduct programs for students including boarders out of hours, as appropriate.
Provide expert advice to staff including classroom teachers, homeroom teachers, mentors, year level co-ordinators and Heads of Houses, regarding needs and support for students.
Work closely with the Inclusive Education Team to identify and recommend testing for students. Provide expert advice, interpretation and recommendations on internal and external assessments as required. Liaise with staff, students and parents where appropriate.
Provide psychological advice to crisis management team as required.

Professional Development

Contribute on an individual and collaborative basis to the planning and provision of workshops and programs for staff, students and parents to support an understanding of essential and/or current issues in student welfare.
Support the structured Wellbeing Program within the School, with a specific understanding of Positive Psychology in schools.
Attend professional development opportunities out of hours, as required.
Maintain confidentiality, privacy and ethical standards as required by Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration board.
Attend supervision sessions and identify external supervision opportunities to ensure compliance with registration requirements.

General

Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the support network for students.
Ensure the maintenance of accurate and confidential case files and statistics.
Develop an accurate understanding of the School community and curriculum.
Attend regular meetings with the Director of Care.
Attend meetings with the Heads of School, as required.
Attend staff meetings and other school Professional Learning, as required.
Assist in the development and application of effective procedures for critical incident management within the School.

ABOUT YOU
Qualifications and Certificates

Relevant Psychologist qualification, including registration with AHPRA, or
Relevant Counselling qualification, including Counselling Association registration.

Knowledge and Experience

Experience with working with children and adolescents.
Previous experience working within an education institution (desirable).
Knowledge and experience in Positive Education programs (desirable).

Skills and Attributes

High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
Competent ICT abilities.
An ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within an educational setting.
Ability to supervise psychology/counselling students, if required.
Research and evaluation experience in wellbeing.
Ability to identify and deliver early intervention programs.
