The Athletic Director/Associate Dean of Students is a member of the Leadership Team and is responsible for managing all aspects of the athletic program for MCC students and coaches and managing student discipline and student affairs that are of a non-academic nature.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Implements and supervises all athletic policies and procedures

Assists the Principal in interviewing and selecting qualified candidates for head coaching positions

Works with head coaches to interview and recommend to the Principal candidates for assistant coaching positions

Plans and conducts regular Athletic Department meetings to ensure that all coaches know and follow the rules of the Florida High School Athletic Association and conduct their programs within the mission, philosophy, and goals of Melbourne Central Catholic High School

Observes and when necessary supervises practice sessions for each sport

Evaluates each head coach at the end of the athletic season, provides feedback to other significant staff members and ensures that head coaches evaluate their assistants; files written evaluations with the Principal

Maintains proper eligibility files for each student athlete and works with the Assistant Principal to assure only eligible student athletes participate during each season

Provides each coach with proper state eligibility rosters

Maintains proper medical examination files on each student athlete and informs the administration of any seriously injured student athlete

Maintains a record of all team participants, contest records, and award winners

Coordinates all athletic awards assemblies

Approves and schedules all games and contests

Supervises the scheduling and use of all athletic fields and facilities

Recommends athletic maintenance needs to the President

Coordinates the hiring of FHSAA approved officials for each home contest

Supervises the athletic trainer

Works with the school controller to coordinate tickets sales, gate receipts, and appropriate financial records for each season

Provides prefects, tickets sellers, scorekeepers and announcers as needed for each contest

Coordinates transportation for away contests

Serves as the chief spokesperson for MCC athletics

Prepares an annual athletic budget

Maintains the approved athletic department budget in accordance with procedures and financial guidelines established by the Business Office

Supervises the purchase, storage, and distribution of all athletic equipment supplies

Keeps accurate records of all athletic inventories

Approves the coaches' requests to attend clinics and conferences and submits such requests to the Principal and President for final approval

Coordinates proper supervision for all home events

Is responsible, in conjunction with the coaches for canceling or postponing athletic events due to inclement weather

Assist coaches in releasing to the communications director involving the athletic program

Works with the Principal to handle any problems regarding coaches, players, or the athletic program

Works with the Student Council and Assistant Principal to plan and conduct pep rallies

Represents the school at all league, conference, and state athletic meetings

Other duties as assigned by the Principal

Student Behavior

Manages day-to-day discipline issues

Works with the administration and faculty to assure disciplinary codes, regulations and the administration of discipline match school philosophy

Handles all aspects of the daily disciplinary procedures necessary to maintain a proper school environment

Coordinates behavioral detention

Maintains accurate attendance and tardiness records; approves excused absences

Applies the student code and disciplinary consequences fairly to all students

Authorized to suspend a student from classes following established procedures

Maintains accurate discipline records and provides proper notification to the parents and other administrators regarding those who demonstrate repeated behavioral problems

Prepares the appropriate contracts, conducts the conferences, and monitors the behavior of those on probation.

Works with the School Counselors to evaluate and correct student behavioral problems related to academic performance

Education / Experience / Skills

Practicing Catholic preferred

Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training and test requirements

Bachelor's degree in related athletic and educational field

Appropriate Florida State Teaching Certification

At least five years of experience in coaching/classroom

Ability to organize multiple athletic events

Ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing

Strong command of both written and spoken English language

The position often involves coordinating, training, supervising, or managing the activities of others to accomplish goals and requires advanced communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and working well with others. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors, via face-to-face discussions, telephone communications, and electronic mail essential.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift at least 25 pounds. Physical demands include balancing, carrying, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, talking, and walking. Also includes the ability to see items close.
